Key Takeaways
Hyatt is our favorite hotel point system.
- The value of their points is exceptional.
- The quality of the hotels is consistently high.
- There’s no nickel-and-diming cardholders. As a Hyatt cardholder, you’re instantly a VIP
- They’re a part of our top partner rewards system (Chase Ultimate Rewards) , making top offs from Chase, both easy and a good value.
- The only downside of Hyatt is they have fewer locations than Hilton, Marriott, or IHG, so smaller or international cities may not have one.

How to Earn Points
Earning World of Hyatt points is easy thanks to its partnership with Chase, the most popular bank in the hobby. You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt, and Chase also offers two co-branded World of Hyatt cards, one personal and one business. Staying at Hyatt is the other most efficient way to earn Hyatt points. There are several other ways to earn points, but they offer low value and are not worth extra effort.
Earn by staying at Hyatt
World of Hyatt members earn 5 base points per $1 spent on eligible stays at Hyatt properties. You must book directly through Hyatt, not a third-party travel site. You also earn points on qualifying room charges like dining, spa, and other on-property amenities billed to your room. You do not earn points on award stays where you redeem points for your room.
- Discoverist: 10 percent bonus points on paid stays
- Explorist: 20 percent bonus points on paid stays
- Globalist: 30 percent bonus points on paid stays
Earn by opening co-branded credit cards
Hyatt has two co-branded credit cards backed by Chase, which is also a transfer partner of World of Hyatt. There is one personal card and one business card, each offering solid signup bonuses that earn Hyatt points plus various perks. We think the personal card is worth keeping long term, while the business card is better for earning the welcome offer and then canceling after a year.
Earn by opening Chase or Bilt cards
One of the reasons Chase is the most popular bank in the points and miles hobby is because of the strength of its transfer partners, with Hyatt leading the way. You can use Chase Ultimate Rewards to top off or fully book a stay at any Hyatt property. Chase offers many different cards, giving you plenty of ways to build points and transfer them to World of Hyatt.
Bilt is the only other transfer partner of World of Hyatt. If you are a renter, you should absolutely have the Bilt Mastercard so you can earn points on rent payments each month (up to 100,000 per year). Because Hyatt is a Bilt partner, you can transfer Bilt points to top off or book an entire stay.

How to Redeem Points
Booking stays at a Hyatt property is the best use of your points. Hyatt is the most award-friendly hotel program in the hobby. There are transfer options to airlines, but they are all terrible redemptions and should not be considered.
World of Hyatt uses an award chart for reward bookings. This is one reason the program is so popular, since the chart creates many sweet spot opportunities. Resort and destination fees are also waived when you book with points, which adds meaningful value.
Hyatt is known as the most valuable hotel program for award bookings because of its published award chart. Here are some key details about award bookings:
- Hotels are categorized between 1 and 8, and all-inclusive resorts between A and F.
- Pricing varies for peak vs. off-peak dates.
- Room types include standard, club, standard suite, and premium suite.
- The chart is updated annually around February or March, when prices often increase and hotels are recategorized.
Hyatt purchased Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2023. These boutique properties use dynamic pricing. While the hotels can be luxurious, redemption rates are generally less valuable than those available through Hyatt’s main award chart.
Car rentals
You can both earn and spend Hyatt points for Avis car rentals. Enter your World of Hyatt number to earn points when you rent with Avis, and you can also receive 25% off base rates. You can redeem 6000 points per day for an intermediate sized car, but this is not a good value for your points.
